Contemporary Teacher

Niara was born and raised in Brussels, Belgium and studied classical ballet at the Conservatory of Brussels before relocating to the U.S to attend Boston University.

After earning her B.A in Psychology, she spent time living and working in Paris and Hawaii before settling in NYC. It was there that she resumed her dance training at Broadway Dance Center and Manhattan Motion. Niara soon relocated to Boulder, Colorado, where she continued her training at Motion Underground Dance Studio under the direction of Kenny Jiminez.

Colorado's thriving dance community offered many performance opportunities. Niara joined Mob Squad, the Denver Nuggets hip hop dance team led by Kenny Jimenez. She also performed nationally with Jimenez' dance company Elements of Motion. As a member of F.E.M, Niara danced at the esteemed San Francisco Hip Hop Festival, and as the founder and artistic director of Boom Unit, she performed at the Colorado Hip Hop Festival and Colorado's Best Dance Crew. She was also fortunate to have toured nationally and abroad with Gary Kendell's Monster Shop Bumpin' Tour. The opportunity to work with the legendary Jabbawockeez founder has had a lasting impact on her.

Niara's next venture was as a founder and co-owner of StreetSide Studios – a performance based dance studio in Boulder, CO. She spent 2 years managing the studio, directing hip hop performance troupes, and teaching a mix of dance styles for youth and teen students. In 2010, Niara refocused her energy towards the development of Niara Dance, an adult dance program specializing in urban and contemporary movement.Niara currently teaches a variety of classes throughout San Diego including hip hop, contemporary, street jazz and heels.

Niara has been teaching and choreographing at Marie Arts’ studios for the past 4 years. She is excited to continually reach new students and share with them her passion for authentic and organic driven movement at PADC. Niara encourages her students to step outside their comfort zone, to strive for maximum growth, and to always move with purpose.
