Our new competition director is Christopher Nolen, who brings with him a wealth of knowledge in contemporary forms of dance as well as a strong background in ballet. He is a dance major graduate from the prestigious SUNY Purchase University, Conservatory of Dance in NY as a fellowship student with Alvin Ailey and also trained with Alonzo King’s LINES Ballet.

Mr. Nolen also danced with Springboard Danse Montréal and studied abroad with Taipei National University of the Arts.  Christopher was a competition dancer in his earlier training in L.A.

He has also toured both national and internationally with the Lula Washington Dance Theatre, Kyle Abraham's A.I.M., Daniel Gwirtzman Dance Group, August Wilson Center Dance Ensemble, Texture Ballet, Gregory Dawson Dance, Disney' “Aladdin, A Musical Spectacular”, Universal Studios Hollywood “The Grinchmas”, Princess Cruises, Holland America Cruise Line, Michelob Ultra Beer Superbowl Commercial, Pedals in the wind (Feature Film), and James' Cameron's "Avatar" as a dancer / navi to name a few.

Mr. Nolen currently instructs at two competition studios in the greater Los Angeles region, and last year he founded CAN MOVES, an interdisciplinary arts program designed to merge the concert and commercial dance world.

His vast knowledge and expertise will bring the professional level training we are looking for in order to merge the competition world with the concert & fine performing arts at PADC.

Christopher Nolen is very excited to be taking on his new position as Competition Director at PADC and will not only be setting choreography, but will be teaching in the competition program all levels of Jazz, Lyrical & Contemporary. Christopher will also be teaching classical and contemporary ballet for workshops and intensives, and is very excited to be bringing his LINES Ballet training to PADC’s already strong contemporary ballet program.

Christopher is high energy, dynamic and an extremely talented dancer & choreographer. He is also down to earth, and a wonderful person to be around. I have had many talks with Christopher already and truly feel he understands the vision and atmosphere I am wanting to create at Pacific Arts Dance Center. He has many wonderful, creative ideas that will continue to grow our competition program as well as our concert dance side.  He is also passionate about making connections for our dancers and he truly has the connections in the dance world and commercial dance world to make things really happen for our career-oriented dancers.
