Angela was born in Johannesburg, South Africa; and started her ballet training at the age of 4 years; thereafter successfully passing all the Royal Academy of Dance Examinations with Distinctions; culminating in the Royal Academy of Dance Advanced 2.
She then joined the University of Cape Town Ballet Faculty, dancing professionally with the company for three years; and at the same time attaining her Degree in the Teaching Methodology of Classical Ballet with DistinctionsThis Degree incorporatedother related subjects such as the History of Dance, The Theory of Dance Movements, the Principles of Classical Dance, Choreography etc. Angela also studied various other styles of dance which included Character, Spanish, Isadora Duncanâ€™s Free Movement, Modern Dance, Historical Dance and Ballroom.
In 1970 she opened her own Dance Academy in South Africa, successfully entering students in all the Examination levels of the Royal Academy of Dance. She also produced and directed numerous ballet performances such as Aladdin, Beauty & the Beast, Peter Pan, and the Tales of Hans Christian Anderson.Â
In 1990 , after successfully completing her training in London, she was invited to join the prestigious Board of International Examiners (Judges) of the Royal Academy of Dance; and has continued examining extensively in many countries worldwide.
Â In 2000 Angela, along with her husband and family moved to the USA, settling in Irvine, California, and continued teaching in a freelance capacity, and conducting examinations on behalf of the Royal Academy of Dance. Angela was awarded the Paul Harris Fellowship award by Rotary International for the advancement of the Arts.
Mrs Watkin is thrilled to be taking on the role of RAD Director at Pacific Arts Dance Center. Mrs. Watkin's has been teaching at Pacific Arts Dance Center and developing beautiful RAD trained ballet dancers. As an International Examiner, Mrs Watkin is at the forefront in her leadership withÂ the Royal Academy syllabus and institute.
